Special Club Awards

The Ian Woolsey Award

Ian was a long-standing volunteer coach and a great friend of TGC for many years and we were extremely saddened when he passed away in 2014.  Ian is remembered by all who were lucky enough to know him for his enthusiasm, his commitment to gymnastics in general and TGC in particular and his warm, friendly and fun-loving personality.

The Ian Woolsey Award, first presented at the Club’s 25th Anniversary event in 2014, is awarded annually to a young volunteer who combines commitment, enthusiasm and a desire to develop their coaching skills with friendliness and a sense of fun.  Candidates for the award are put forward by the coaches and the winner is chosen from a short-list by a panel of senior coaches in conjunction with Ian’s family.

The Mick Lacey Award

Mick, along with his wife Jane, first stepped in to help out on the admin desk many moons ago when their daughters were young gymnasts at the club.  They soon became an essential part of our team, running the admin desk like clockwork and welcoming hundreds of gymnasts, parents, coaches and guests to the club over the years.  Mick was a friend of the club for almost twenty years and his involvement didn’t stop at the admin desk as his skills as a photographer and cameraman have given the club and many gymnasts wonderful mementoes of displays and Christmas parties.  We were shocked and greatly saddened when Mick passed away in late 2014, but we will always remember him for his ready smile, his great sense of humour and his generosity of spirit.  The Mick Lacey Award, first presented in 2015, recognises any member of the Tooting Gymnastics Club community who has made an outstanding contribution to the club and embodies the Club spirit.  Nominations can be made by any member of the Club community and the winner is chosen by the Lacey family.
