Congratulations to all the gymnasts that took part in the “Jukebox Legends” display!
It was an honour and privileged to have been presented to Her Majesty the Queen at her Royal Garden Party on Wednesday 29th May 2019. The invitation was linked to the British Empire Medal (BEM) which was awarded in the Queens New Years’ Honours list 2018. I (Mary Wright) was able to take one guest, which was my mother (Barbara Hitchings). We both had an amazing day and was so very lucky to have been selected from 8000 other guests to be among the few to meet her that day. We had a lovely conversation about Gymnastics and the weather and I offered to teach her a cartwheel!!
A great time was had by all at the annual Christmas Parties. We had seven parties in total this year! Santa visited and there was lots of fun and games including bouncy castles, trampolines and “how to make a snowman”! We raised £120 in the raffle, with the proceeds going towards a piece of equipment in memory of Zareeyah. 1st Prize (the hamper) was won by Edith, 2nd Price (course fees paid for half a term) was won by Grace and 3rd Prize (a beautiful hand made cupcake bouquet, kindly donated by one of the mums) was won by Sarah.
We raised £266 on the cake stall and the proceeds will go to Trinity Hospice, in memory of Mick Lacey. Thank you to the volunteers for helping with the cake stall and also to YOU the members for your cake donations, we had quite a few boxes of cakes left over so we donated to the local Food Bank in Tooting!
Tickets go on sale at the Christmas Parties!

Congratulations to Cherry Tolcher on being awarded the “Mick Lacey Award”. This award is in memory of Mick Lacey, one of our volunteer parents. The award recognises outstanding contributions to the club. The award was presented to Cherry during the Display by a close friend and colleague of Mick’s from Trinity Hospice.
Hannah visited the Club on Friday 30 September and spent over 3 hours working with a number of enthusiastic gymnasts from our Rec 1, 2 and 3 classes. With the “Country and Western” theme of our upcoming display in mind, the gymnasts were particularly excited to learn a few “tricks” with the rope from Hannah! She also wowed gymnasts and parents alike with a beautiful and expressive combined freehand and ball routine, showcasing her incredible flexibility and dance skills as well as her command of the apparatus. A great time was had by all and we look forward to Hannah’s next visit and continue to support her in her journey and dream of reaching the Olympics in 2020.
Another great day for Alfie and Freddy Tolcher at the GfA Floor and Vault competition on Saturday 25 June 2016.
Alfie was 1st on Floor and 2nd on Vault making him Overall London Region Winner (Gold)
Freddy was 2nd on Floor and 4th on Vault making him Silver medalist.
A great performance from both boys – well done!
Tooting Gym Club says “Goodbye and Good Luck” to Coach Maddy. Maddy has been with the club for 16 years. She joined at the age of three in our Tots programme and progressed through to what used to be called the Intermediates class. She left for a short while but soon returned as a volunteer coach. She passed her British Gymnastics qualifications and has been coaching with us for the last 3 years. Maddy is leaving to go to University but first she is going to do a bit of travelling! We wish her all the very best for the future and hope she returns to coaching one day!
Evelyn leaves Tooting Gymnastics Club after 10 years! The coaches and gymnasts said “goodbye” to Evelyn after 3 years of coaching and 7 years of training as a gymnast.
Evelyn has decided to go travelling for a few months before she starts University in Leeds. We wish her all the best and hope she returns to the club after University.
